This is a large dog breed. The males will usually stand between 27 and 29 inches tall and weigh between 100 and 140 pounds. The female are a little bit smaller. They usually stand between 26 and 28 inches and weigh between 85 and 140 pounds. Their coat is long, dense, weatherproof, bristly, wavy and black. Their characteristic bangs in the face and beard make them a cute dog to look at. The Black Russian Terrier is known for its eagerness to please its human companions. They are capable of doing just about any dog work you can image. They are great hunting dogs, protectors, herder, family pets, and companions. They enjoy children and other family pets, however, they do not always get along with non-household animals. To care for this breed you will need to brush their coat weekly. This breed does not shed a lot so you may need to help them get rid of dead hair in order to prevent matting. Their coat should be trimmed about every 6 to 8 weeks. You will also need a lot of exercise. Try taking them for a long walk or jog, or take them to the local river or pond for a dip. The only health problems that seem to plague this breed are elbow and hip problems.
