The Chesapeake Bay Retriever is an American breed that originated when two Newfoundland dogs where washed ashore after a shipwreck. They were bred with Indian dogs, Irish Water Spaniels, setters, and other spaniels. The result was an amazing water dog and hunting dog.
The Chesapeake Bay Retriever typically stands between 21 and 26
inches tall. They weigh in between 55 and 75 pounds. Their coats
are bred for water work. Its outer coat is oily and dense and its
undercoat is wooly and fine. Their coat comes in a variety of shades
of brown and sedge. If cared for properly this dog can live up to
12 years.
