They were designed as a water sport dog for retrieving water fowl on hunting trips. This breed does not have a large fan pool in the U.S. and Europe, however, they can still be found in numbers in Australia and New Zealand. The Curly-Coated Retriever is a good sized dog that stands between 25 and 27 inches tall. They have an athletic build and usually weigh between 70 and 80 pounds. Their coat is curly except for on their faces, which have short straight hair. This breed comes in two colors, black and liver. To keep this dog breed happy and well behaved they will need a lot of mental and physical stimulation. To keep your Curly-Coat Retriever happy and healthy you may want to run him through hunting and retrieving drills, take him for long walks in the woods, or run him through obstacle courses in the park.
