Dog breeds: Mixed

Back to list of breeds

Mixed breeds, also called mutts, are usually healthier then pure bred dogs. The temperament of the dog is going to depend on what breeds are in their bloodline, how they were trained, and how they have been treated. The size, color, and shape of Mixed Breed Dogs are also going to depend on what breeds were crossed and what characteristics are naturally dominant. It is not uncommon to find very different looking puppies in the same mixed breed litter.

Mixed Breed dogs have become very popular in the last several years. Designer dogs, like the Puggle, are quickly replacing old time family pure bred favorites like the Black Labrador and the Cocker Spaniel. Mixed Breeds have several advantages over pure breeds. These advantages include stable temperaments, fewer hereditary health problems and conditions, and they are less expensive to buy and take care of.
