They were originally used to guard farms and animals, as well as for hunting and retrieving waterfowl. They are a medium sized dog that stands between 18 and 19 inches tall and that weighs between 35 and 45 pounds. They have a soft, silky, and fluffy coat that is wheaten, white, or white and red. Dark markings are also commonly found on their ears.
