Dog etiquette
Can’t
we all just get along? There are billions of people living on this
great earth and hundreds of millions of dogs. Too often there are
clashes resulting from poorly trained dogs, under-educated people,
and dog owners who are misinformed and lazy. The key to fixing these
problems is what I call ‘Dog Etiquette”. Dog etiquette
involves education, training, and a proactive approach to making
sure that our dogs can co-exist with the other creatures on this
planet. Remember not everyone likes dogs or understands dog behavior.
There is such a thing as dog culture. Just because you are a member
of this dog culture doesn't mean that everyone else is. You as the
dog owner need to learn how to navigate yourself and your dog in
a world that is not always dog friendly.
Proper dog etiquette will drastically reduce dog bites, will turn
our dogs into better citizens, will result in less runaway dogs,
less stray animals, and better relationships between our dogs and
our children and all of those ‘non dog-lovers’ in the
world.
So pay attention and read up. Chances are that you are currently
in violation of some dog etiquette rules that would make you, your
dog, and those around you much happier if you were to just change
certain aspects of your behavior. Good luck and good training.
