AUDIO: Your Questions Answered- Part 3
Ty Brown
Upon launching this site I asked you for your most pressing dog training questions. I received tons of responses. Here are the answers to your training questions:
-How to get a dogs attention when training? How to stop a dog from pulling when on the leash? -How to stop her digging in the yard, on the carpets and in her bed? How to make her come when she is out side out of the yard? -Jumping up on people. Training them to be off a leash and still listen and stay close? - On how to stop my Coton de Tuliar and Miniature Aussie to STOP barking, when someone comes to the front gate. it takes about five minutes with them and then they are okay. They just dont listen. Thank you. -Two things I'm interested in seeing addressed: 1- Ocd/nervous compulsion activities in senior dogs: licking, circling, whining 2- Keeping my herd well "integrated" with one another: I foster for long term seniors (the last stop while on earth) and sometimes they act like they have never seen one another. -Hey Ty-
We still really appreciate what you did for us and Beneilli. She is ten times the dog she was before or we are ten times the dog owner.
Two things I would like to get answered are:
- How can we make it easier to put a collar or leash on. She struggles and cannot hold still?
- How to properly socialize the dog with small kids and other dogs?
Hope all is well with you and your family!!! - First off I think this is a great idea!! My two questions are this: We have a puppy who is about 10 months old, is cooped up in the house most of the day, and when we let him out he wants to run, which is good, but he just keeps running until he is out of our sight! So, HOW DO WE TRAIN HIM TO COME TO US WHEN CALLED? He does fine in the house and we reward him with treats and praise, but once he hits the great outdoors, he vanishes! My second question is: HOW DO I TRAIN A DOG USING A WHISTLE? Thank you for the answers to these questions. I look forward to visiting the new website. - I would like to know how to get my dog to pay attention just to me when I am around other dogs and people when we are on a walk. Thanks. -Two things I would live to see would be aggression (either leash or dog) and how to hold a dogs attention whil trying to loose leash walk. (I've tried good treats and he's still more interested in sniffing around) - 1) How in the world can I keep my Golden's from jumping up on people? We have worked with several different types of trainers to no avail. They just get too excited when people come over. At 70#, they can knock a child over or hurt an elderly person... help!
2) How do I establish Alpha status? - How do I stop my dog (a Shih Tzu) from making potty messes in the hallway (specifically as close to my son's bedroom door as possible)? She is a spayed, alpha female who is about 18 months old and obviously that likes to be in charge.
Next, how to I teach her not to pull on the leash when I take her out? She has to smell EVERYTHING and if a bird, squirrel, or cat happen to catch her attention, she is pulling me hard enough to make me run to catch up with her.
If I may extend this opportunity, how do I keep her from getting into soiled undergarments and socks and sucklings on them? This is a nasty, gross thing she does and she finds things we can't find.
She stays inside a lot as we don't have a place for her to run free, which I believe she needs. She loves to play with kids, but jumps on them and scares them, even scares some adults who misunderstand her actions as aggressive and not friendly.
Whatever you can respond to will be greatly appreciated.
Thank you. - How can we train a young mastiff (6 months, male) to stop pursuing our cats, and their food! he gets plenty to eat, and most of our attention!
