Month 4 Training Module- How to Fix Dog Aggression
Ty Brown
Get a risk-free trial of my aggression training modules. During the first three modules we've been working on obedience and how to apply steps two and three, controlling the environment around the dog and correcting the aggression when it comes out. During this module I'm going to teach you my 'step back recall' for applying steps two and three of the Aggression Formula. This method is one I discovered on accident and out of necessity one day working with a client who had an extremely aggressive dog. This single method has taken my aggression program from very good to great and has put my method on the map around the country as one of the premiere methods for fixing aggression in dogs. I now use this method with every one of my clients to fix aggression with amazing success. If you can master this one technique you are well on your way to fixing aggression. The 'step back recall' method, however, REQUIRES a strong foundation of obedience. So please don't attempt this method until you've worked your way through the previous modules and have a dog that is now reliably obedient. Also during this module we are going to continue focusing on getting a higher level of obedience training with your dog. Let's continue to focus on our 'Core Behaviors'
I can't overemphasize our core behaviors enough. Make sure your dog comes when called, stays when told, and walks on a loose leash. In next month's module we'll work on other obedience commands that are also important but for now it is critical to have these core behaviors down to a 'T'.

Video- Closing the gap- Using the step back recall we can get dogs closer and closer to other dogs. In other words we can close the threshold that the dog has. In this video we have taken a dog from wanting to show aggression towards other dogs at a distance of 100 feet or more all the way down to being okay with other dogs at just a few feet. This is the step where we break down the final barrier and get this dog to be around other dogs.
Video- Using the concepts of the 'Step Back Recall' for door aggression- The same principles and methods that apply for the step back recall performed on leash can also be applied in other scenarios like at the door. Use this video to learn how to fix a dog who is aggressive when someone comes knocking at the door.
Video- Train the step back recall indoors- Sometimes you'll need to perform the step back recall in tighter spots. This video shows you how. More Resources
