Want me to help walk you through this housebreaking formula? Sign up for my House Training Module.

Every dog and every owner needs to know the principles behind housebreaking and house training. The formulas and methods you will learn in the following resources are fool-proof and work every time. Dig in and get ready to have a house trained dog.

As a dog trainer I have a 100% success rate in teaching clients and dog owners how to potty train their dog whenever a dog owner applies what I show them. Sure, some dogs are more difficult than others but my method gets most dogs to stop going to the bathroom in the house usually within days. Once we get the dog to stop going in the house, then we can start teaching the dog how to have freedom in the house.

Understand My Housebreaking Formula
In training dogs I have a lot of 'Formulas'. What I mean by that is there are certain things that work every time. Don't get me wrong, they need to be applied correctly to each individual dog, but if you can apply certain things the right way to a dog you can have predictable and positive results. If you want predictable results then follow this formula that has worked with countless dogs.

Video- Understand my formula with a real client- In this video I sit down with a real client that has a young puppy in need of house training. Listen in to find out what she needs to start doing right now to get her puppy trained.
Audio- House Training Tele-Seminar I did a tele-seminar for members and guests of my website. Make sure to listen in to the whole thing as there is a Q & A with dog owners struggling with their own house training issues.
Audio- Housebreaking radio show part I- When I was the host of a popular radio show I did a series on house training. This is the first episode.

Video- Huge misconception in house training a dog- On countless occasions I have had dog owners tell me that their dog 'knew they weren't supposed to go to the bathroom on the floor'. This is one of the biggest myths and misconceptions in house training a dog. Understanding this mistake will help you get your dog housebroken much faster.
Audio- Train your dog to enjoy his or her dog crate/kennel- Crate training is often a big part of fixing a house training problem. Use this audio to learn how to get your dog to enjoy being in the crate. Crate training is a very natural (definitely not cruel) way to follow step 1 of 'Prevention'.
Article- House train your dog in a new home- Many people complain that when they move to a new home or adopt an adult dog into a new home that the dog regresses with their house training. Follow these guidelines to get an adult dog back on track with house training.
Audio- Train your dog to go to the bathroom in one spot- Audio- Have you ever wished your dog could go to the bathroom in just one spot? It may be easier than you think to accomplish this. Let me teach you how.
Article- My 'Matchstick Trick' method is controversial and sometimes downright crazy. It can work, though, for some dogs to help with a house training issue.
Article- Does your dog know he did something wrong? If you think your dog knows he did something wrong when you find an 'accident' in the house, you may just be the one who is wrong.

Use Obedience Training to Work on House Training & Housebreaking
A big part of my formula for house training a dog is preventing your dog from going to the bathroom in the first place. A big part of the prevention step is to supervise your dog. It can be very difficult to supervise a dog that isn't well trained. An obedient dog is easy to supervise. Think about it; if your dog comes when called, stays when told, and follows you around the house it becomes very easy to supervise your dog.

The initial part of my formula is to keep a leash on your un-house trained dog while in the house. This is a good first step. You can't keep a leash on your dog forever, though. As your dog progresses you want to wean your dog off the leash and use voice commands and obedience to supervise your dog.

Train Your Dog to Stay on Command
If your dog stays on command he or she CAN'T sneak off and go potty around the house. Staying when told is incredibly important.
Video- Train the 'Place' Command- I usually like to start with training a dog or puppy to stay on a bed. By giving your dog a target and a location to stay you will often find that your dog gets the idea much quicker. It's not uncommon for my students to have their puppies staying in a bed for 10 minutes or more very quickly. Imagine how much easier it would be to supervise your puppy or dog if he or she stayed in a bed.
Video- Train the place command- More instruction on training the place command.
Video- The next stage in training the place command- Taking your place command to the next level.

Video- Train your dog to sit and stay- Training a Yorkie to sit and stay.
Video- Train your dog to sit, lie down, and stay- Remember, if your dog stays when told it makes it so much easier to supervise him. Your dog can't sneak off and go potty if he's staying put.
Video- More instruction on 'stay' behaviors- Watch for more training on how to get your dog to stay on command.

Train Your Dog to Come on Command
Video- Train the formal recall- I train both a casual recall and a formal recall. This is the formal recall.
Video- Train the casual recall, part I of II- The 'casual recall' is the one I recommend using most around the house. Remember, if your dog comes when called he or she can't sneak off and use your house as a toilet.

My dog went from a barking aggressive mutt to a very obedient best friend. Ty knows what he is doing and I recommend him to anyone I see being controlled by their dog!
