Here is a Basic Guide for the Proper Size of Dog Crate

Dog Crates come in different sizes. Different brands will use different terms for their sizes but several use the following sizes.

XS- Cat, Small Yorkshire Terriers, Small Chihuahuas

S- Maltese, Chihuahua, Pomeranian

M- Boston Terrier, Beagle, Jack Russell Terrier

ML- Bassett Hound, Bulldog, Shar Pei, Shetland Sheepdog

L- Boxer, Standard Poodle, Border Collie, Small Labrador Retrievers

XL- German Shepherd, Rottweiler, Large Labrador Retrievers, Mastiff

These are only guidelines for choosing a crate for your dog. Your dog may be larger or smaller than the standard and may fit differently than as listed above.

It is also important to note that if you are shipping your dog by air, the airlines have specific requirements regarding the size of the crate and the amount of ventilation. In the past several years the guidelines have changed several times and are still subject to change. Call the airline for current crate restrictions.
