Dog Training FAQ - Dog Constipation

I have an 8 pound Maltese. He is constipated so bad that he's pushing so hard that it hurts. What can I give him to make him go regular?
Thank you

Thanks for your question.
Dog constipation is normally a sign of poor nutrition. I would speak with your vet regarding a more healthy food for your little guy.
In the mean time I would try giving him about 2 Tbs of canned pumpkin per day. Not spiced pie filling, just pure canned pumpkin. Most dogs like the taste and because it is high in fiber and has a high water content it will often help your dog move his bowels. Make sure that he is getting plenty of water as well as his bowels will need that extra water to move the stool through his system.
Also, check out the article on my site about dog enemas: Dog Enema
Another great resource for constipation and all things related to dog health is this book that you can find at this link:

Let me know how it goes. Good luck. Ty Brown
