The West Highland White Terrier, also called the Poltalloch Terrier, is a Scottish terrier breed. They were originally developed as vermin hunters. Today this breed is a popular family pet but often retains its desire to chase and kill small ‘prey’.
The West Highland White Terrier is a small dog that stands between 10 and 11 inches tall and it weighs between 15 and 22 pounds. They have a double coat that consists of a wiry outer coat and a soft undercoat. This breed is always white. The West Highland White Terrier is fun and friendly. They are also a fairly hardy dog that can withstand rough housing. This combination of characteristics makes them an excellent companion for kids.

My westie is 9 months old and all we can get her to do is to sit. We have tried nearly all the training methods out there (except the violent ones) to try and train her the basic commands such as to come to her name and to walk to heel etc. She just doesn’t listen. Please can you help as we want to take her to a field near us and just let her run around as we don’t have enough energy to give her all the walks she needs and i want her to have all the exercise she wants. Whenever she gets let off the lead she goes mad and im scared that she will run into the road or never come back! We really need some help with her as she is the most stubborn dog i have ever had.
Please help,
Chloe
The first thing to realize is that there is no such thing as a dog that doesn’t listen. There IS such thing, however, as a dog that hasn’t been trained. It’s important to realize that because it’s easy to blame the dog and not yourself.
Second, what do you mean by ‘violent’ training? Who does violent training?
